NMAT 2008 is over now. And time is now right to see how you could have done better, if the score you are expecting in NMAT 2008 will be just fine or you need to concentrate more on upcoming XAT 2009 or FMS 2009 or the GBO SRCC or MIB, DU Exam.

Narsee Monjee ( NMIMS or NMAT) 2008 - 2010 Final results out

Results can be accessed from this link.As expected people with higher ranks have managed to get calls, largely because of the admission process tilted heavily in favour of written text marks. I think NMIMS should have managed NMAT 2007 in a better way because they knew the importance of writtens. My center was a horror story, The invigilator had no idea about OMR sheets he very conveniently distributed question papers before the OMR sheet and took the paper couple of minutes before the scheduled time. No, this is not a ' sour grapes' post, but a humble request to all esteemed institutions to attend their own 2008~2010 programme and learn or re-learn a few tricks of operations management. Perhaps, thats the only hope aspirants will have while sitting for NMAT 2008, FMS 2009, IIFT 2008 and IRMA 2008.
By the way no body beats FMS in exam mis-management.
So, another MBA entrance exam is round the corner. Here are some observations,
1. Approximately 500 + seats. More, if bangalore campus is included.
2. Only XAT and FMS left after NMAT. Ofcourse MBE, MFC, FMS-MS exam, CET are also pending.
3. New test pattern
4. Sectional cut-offs from this year.
5. A score in excess of 70 in NMAT 2006 was sufficient to get you a call for PGMD 2007~2009.
6. And dont forget, the admit card should be attested by a gazetted officer, CA or eqivalent.
7. Approximately 36000 students fighting it out for 500 seats. And imagine 500 includes management quota, Gujrati Quota and Affirmative action quota. So, its even worse than 72 kids / seat.
No, this post is not about where to find more mock tests for NMAT 2007. This is more about the relevance of the available mock papers. The pattern of NMAT 2007 will be different from whatever has happened with NMAT till now. ( Read this post for more information on NMAT 2007 pattern.) Still intrested? read on..
Analysis of previous year NMAT's
NMAT 2004 had 200 questions to be solved in 150 minutes. The paper was divided into five sections. Reasoning section had questions from visual reasoning, logical reasoning, critical reasoning etc. Verbal section relied heavily on synonyms and antonyms questions. Two passages and some sentence correction questions completed this section. Quant was fairly basic. Arithmetic was flavour of the day and there were some algebra questions too. DI and GK were on the expected lines. A score in excess of 90 was expected to get you a call, However, in the end a score of 82+ was enough to make the cut.
NMAT 2005 was on same lines as NMAT 2004. 200 questions, 150 minutes and 0.33 negative marking. Paper was again divided into five sub sections. Verbal was high on RC this time around and the difficulty level was on the higher side. The antonyms and synonyms were replaced by analogies. Sentence correction and para jumbles completed the section. Reasoning was more or less on the same lines as NMAT 2004. NMAT's romance with arithmetic continued as there were 23 questions on this subject. GK and DI were as expected. The pundits expected a cut-off of 86+ vis-a-vis 84+, which was the actual cut-off
NMAT 2006 had a good change in store for the contestants. I call exam-takers contestants, because thats what they are. Darkening circles in a hope that this darkness will take them to the light. Anyways, the change was that NMAT decided to be kind. Negative was reduced to 0.25 and rest of the things remained unchanged.Verbal followed NMAT 2005's pattern, albeit with easier RC. Data Sufficiency was new occupant of reasoning section and Quant was Arithmetic's slave. GK was easy and DI was time killer.Overall the level of paper was a bit tougher than traditional NMAT's and Hence, pundit's said 75+ was enough.
How all this is related to Mock NMAT papers
The pattern of exam will change this year. The paper would be more SNAP test like, but GK will not be one of the sections. All the Mocks that are available are traditional NMAT's. TCY's online mocks are more like NMAT 2005. Princeton-review NMAT mock also resembles NMAT 2005 pattern. So, where do we go? what are we left with?
If you take my opininon, I think one should be doing SNAP mocks instead of NMAT mocks. You can skip the GK section and reduce the time limit of the paper to 90 minutes. This will ensure that the difficulty level of the paper matches NMAT's (expected) level.
I do have about 7 SNAP mocks, just in case you want one.

this is for all those who are still oblivious to the fact that NMIMS has decided to change the test pattern from this year on. The change comes largely from the experience that they had last year. The GK section was fairly easy in last years NMAT and hence, resulted in lot of students scoring well in the test, thereby compromising the overall quality of the student mix. It is believed that this prompted NMAT authorities to revise the pattern as follows,

What this means is that one has to be extra careful while taking these mock tests, because most of the available mocks follow the last year pattern.
