CHENNAI: Andaman Islands have received the top ranking in the selection of 10 top beaches of the world. Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that according to a media report, a German tour operator De Ruiter had selected the world's best 10 beaches.
Top ranking was given to Andaman Islands followed by Lakshadweep, Maldives and The Seychelles. His assessment was based on verifiable factors such as sand quality, depth of water, etc. TIME magazine had earlier declared beach No.7, Havelock Island in the Andamans as the ``Best beach in Asia."
Her Ministry was promoting tourism in the Andamans through publicity support and central assistance to infrastructure development.
